Small Turtle/Axestemys

Small Turtle/Axestemys
Axestemys was a large freshwater soft shelled turtle that lived in the Eocene age Green River Formation in Wyoming, about 50 million years ago. A staple of turtle evolution, this shows how even millions of years after turtles evolved, they still hadn’t lost all land adaptations. These include mobile hands with full claws and longer arms/legs. Members of this same species of turtle have been found with crocodile bite marks puncturing their shell.
