Dimetrodon Sail Piece

Authentic piece of the spinous process of a dorsal vertebra belonging to Dimetrodon, which would've partially made up the distinctive back sail of this iconic prehistoric species. Known for its bizarre look, the astounding sail of Dimetrodon may be it's most famous feature. Found in the Red Beds formation of Texas, USA, this incredible piece of Dimetrodon's sail gives its future owner the chance to have the most iconic piece of an iconic animal. Comes in a custom made gem-jar style hardwood mount. Dimetrodon was a mid-sized synapsid predator that lived in the Early Permian of North America, about 295 mya. Despite its superficial resemblance to dinosaurs, it was not one itself, being anatomically distinct and pre-dating them by over 50 million years. Dimetrodon’s most iconic feature is the large sail made up by its back vertebrae, which it used for display and to regulate temperature. Dimetrodon was about 12 feet long, 4 feet tall, and weighed 500 lbs.
