Juvenile Tyrannosaurus Rex / Nanotyrannus Tooth

The species this beautiful authentic fossil tooth belonged to has been the subject of much debate. Some scientists argue it belongs to an adolescent of the most iconic and intimidating dinosaurian predator of all time, Tyrannosaurus rex. Others stay firm that it belongs to a related species of smaller, sleeker, fast moving Tyrannosaurid, known as Nanotyrannus. While its identity may still be up for debate, the quality of this stunning tooth from the Lance Formation of Wyoming, USA is not. Chocolate in color, with beautiful enamel preserved, and serrations on either side- this is a must have piece for any carnivore collector. The juvenile T. rex, or perhaps Nanotyrannus this tooth belonged to, lived in North America during the Late Cretaceous Period, about 65 million years ago. They were long legged, slim jawed, fast moving predators, built to take down the quicker moving prey of its time, opposed to the robust bruisers that were adult T. rex. Because these juvenile Tyrannosaurs look so different from adults, some scientists believe the specimens belong to their own species, known as Nanotyrannus.

Tooth is approximately 0.5" along curve, 1.5" tall on mount, base dimensions are approx. 1"x 0.75".
