While they may commonly be referred to as meteors, this is incorrect. Meteors are anything that enters our atmosphere but burns up before impacting the planet. Meteorites are any of the debris that survive until impact. They are typically made of incredibly dense rock and metals, with the largest intact specimen weighing 60 tonnes but only reaching 9 feet in length.
