Oviraptor Egg

The real egg this cast was molded off of was a perfectly complete and intact and belonged to an Oviraptor. The beautiful preservation and impressive size makes this cast at home in any display or collection! Oviraptor was a small omnivorous dinosaur from Late Cretaceous Mongolia, about 71 million years ago. Oviraptor was about 3 feet tall, 5 feet long, and weighed about 90 lbs. Its name, meaning “egg thief” refers to the first fossil found of the animal, an adult Oviraptor preserved on top of a nest of dinosaur eggs. However, more recent scientific analyses have shown that the eggs belonged to Oviraptor, suggesting the adult was not stealing them, but caring for its own brood.

Egg is roughly 6" long, 9" tall on stand. Base dimensions are approx. 4"x2".
