Sarcosuchus Tooth

Authentic fossil tooth to the giant crocodilian, Sarcosuchus imperator. This huge conical tooth is not only beautifully preserved but has an incredible color gradient running its entire length. This amazing piece is a testament to the intimidating and voracious nature of this giant aquatic carnivore, who would've been the apex predator of its environment. Comes with a custom made hardwood stand. Sarcosuchus was a large African crocodilian from the Early Cretaceous Period, about 112 mya. A massive marine monster, Sarcosuchus could stretch over 30 feet long & weigh nearly 5 tons. The bulbous snout (or bulla) of this animal resembles a display structure found today on male gharials; but the bulla is present on every Sarcosuchus skull known, implying both sexes possessed it & leaving its purpose unknown. The long slender jaws & uniquely flat & plate-like armor of Sarcosuchus allowed it to snap up the prey of its time, from fish to dinosaurs.

Tooth is 1.26" long, approx 2.5" tall on mount, mount base dimensions are roughly 1.5"x1.5".
