These massive molars were cast off real ones belonging to Smilodon, whose massive canines earned this cat the nickname of "Saber-tooth"! Smilodon was a large predatory big cat species from the North American Pleistocene, about 11,000 years ago. Despite commonly being known as the “saber-toothed tiger”, Smilodon is most closely related to modern day Clouded Leopards. This big feline was about as big as a lion, but taller and much stockier, sometimes weighing up to 600 lbs. It likely used its iconic saber-canine teeth to puncture the jugular artery or spinal cords of its prey, debilitating it instantly.
