Sarcosuchus

Sarcosuchus was a large African crocodilian from the Early Cretaceous Period, about 112 mya. A massive marine monster, Sarcosuchus could stretch over 30 feet long & weigh nearly 5 tons. The bulbous snout (or bulla) of this animal resembles a display structure found today on male gharials; but the bulla is present on every Sarcosuchus skull known, implying both sexes possessed it & leaving its purpose unknown. The long slender jaws & uniquely flat & plate-like armor of Sarcosuchus allowed it to snap up the prey of its time, from fish to dinosaurs.
