Morrison Ecosystem Tooth Set
Morrison Ecosystem Tooth Set
These four teeth were all recovered from Wyoming, USA in a quarry dating to the Late Jurassic Period. All four teeth are 100% authentic, and come from the same ecosystem. The teeth belong to the apex predator, Allosaurus, the prehistoric crocodylomorph, Goniopholis, the elegant long-necked Diplodocus, and the truly massive Camarasaurus. Allosaurus was a large predator from the North American Jurassic period, living about 145 million years ago. It’s been proposed it lived in groups, using numbers, massive claws, and blade like teeth to take down prey many times larger than itself. Allosaurus was by far the most successful theropod in its environment, several dozen specimens have been recovered by paleontologists, and is Utah’s own state fossil! Goniopholis was a prehistoric species of extinct crocodilian that appeared in North America during the Jurassic Period, about 145 million years ago. It did not however go extinct until the early Cretaceous, about 110 million years ago. It is strikingly similar to its later cousins, Nile Crocodiles and American Alligators, and likely lived a very similar lifestyle. It could get nearly 15 feet long, and like its modern relatives, was a semi-aquatic ambush predator. Diplodocus was a giant herbivorous sauropod dinosaur, existing throughout much of the United States in the Late Jurassic, about 145 million years ago, It got nearly 90 feet long, and unlike some of its distant cousins like Brachiosaurus, was far longer than it was tall. We also know thanks to skin impressions that Diplodocus probably had large iguana like spikes running from its neck to its giant whip-like tail.
Camarasaurus was a large long-necked sauropod dinosaur from Late Jurassic North America, about 145 million years ago. It was a heavily built sauropod, with a robust body, thick legs, and a sturdy neck. It used its spoon-shaped teeth to chew the tough tree and plant material of its time, avoiding competition with its larger cousins such as Brachiosaurus and Supersaurus by being midsized for a sauropod, eating different levels of the canopy.
Allosaurus tooth is about 0.6" long, Goniopholis tooth is about 0.6" long, Camarasaurus tooth is approx. 0.75" long, Diplodocus tooth is about 0.5" long.
